Baylor Geosciences to Host Apollo 17 Mission Astronaut

The Department of Geosciences presents an O.T. Hayward Distinguished lecture by Dr. Harrison "Jack" Schmitt on "Geologic insights on the Moon and from the Apollo 17 mission" at the Hurd Welcome Center on Monday, April 8th at 9:30 am. 

Dr. Harrison "Jack" Schmitt is a retired NASA astronaut and the most recent living person to have walked on the Moon as part of the Apollo 17 mission.  Additionally, Schmitt is the only scientist and the only non-military civilian to have walked on the Moon.  He earned a B.S. degree from the California Institute of Technology, where he was a Fulbright Scholar, and he earned a Ph.D. from Harvard University in geology. In the years following Apollo 17 he has worked as a geologist and a university professor specializing in lunar science. Schmitt also served as a U.S. senator from the state of New Mexico.
