Sessions Title: Soils and Paleosols across Space and Time I: A Celebration of Steven G. Driese.

Description: A day-long session of scientific talks and research posters will highlight the contributions of Steven G. Driese to (paleo)pedology, critical zone science, clastic sedimentology, paleoclimatology, micromorphology, geoarchaeology and geochemistry from across the geologic time scale. Dr. Steven Driese was professor of Geology at Baylor University from 2004 – 2022, and department chair from 2004 - 2013. The organizers of the session include four of Professor. Driese’s doctoral student graduates from Baylor University, who carry forward his legacy by scholarly research and teaching in the Geosciences: Dr. William Lukens (James Madison University), Dr. Lauren Michel (Tennessee Technical University), Dr. Emily Beverly (University of Houston) and Dr. Gary Stinchcomb (Murray State University). In acknowledgement to Professor Driese’s favorite research and teaching methods, all presenters are encouraged to include photomicrographic images of soils. The Session is endorsed by GSA Soils and Soil Processes Division; GSA Quaternary Geology and Geomorphology Division; GSA Geoarchaeology Division; GSA Sedimentary Geology Division; SEPM (Society for Sedimentary Geology).
