Emily Blackaby (B.S. 2018) will start as a PhD student at University of Toronto this fall, with Myrna Simpson, in what is one of the top research labs in the field. Emily was inspired to get involved in research at Baylor by Dr. Kenny Befus. Emily was mentored in the lab by Owen Craven (M.S. 2018) and wrote her B.S. thesis with Steve Forman and I on a project with Dr. Gary Stinchomb.

Dr. Todd Longbottom (Ph.D. 2017) just published the 3rd paper of his dissertation in the journal Biogeochemistry . This paper spun off from a project that Dr. Steve Dworkin started with Ken Boling (M.S. 2016). The samples and preliminary data were collected by Cong Jin and Andrew Flynn for a project in my Biogeochemistry course(GEO4322). Todd picked it up where they left off, wrote a Glasscock grant to fund the 14C radiocarbon measurements, and finally overcame a brutal two-year peer review process.
